CPR vs. BLS: Which Training Does Your Workplace Need?

Sep 13
1 min read

CPR and BLS are closely related, but they are not interchangeable course names. Choosing the right training depends largely on an employee's role and the requirements of the employer, licensing body, or healthcare program.

What BLS is designed for

The American Heart Association describes its BLS Provider Course as training designed for healthcare professionals, trained first responders and people enrolled in healthcare training programs. The course covers recognition of life-threatening emergencies, high-quality CPR, AED use, ventilation, choking response and team-based resuscitation skills.

What many workplaces need

For employees outside healthcare, a workplace CPR/AED and first aid course may be the more appropriate fit. The goal is to build practical skills for recognizing an emergency, activating EMS, providing CPR, using an AED and responding to common first aid emergencies until professional responders arrive.

Do not choose based on the course name alone

Employers should confirm the exact certification required for each job role. Healthcare facilities, dental offices, medical training programs and some first responder positions may specifically require BLS, while other workplaces may require CPR/AED and first aid training.

ACRX onsite training

ACRX provides onsite CPR/BLS, AED, First Aid and Stop the Bleed training for businesses and organizations throughout Northeast Texas and Northwest Louisiana. Training can be coordinated around your team, workplace and certification requirements.
